States of matter

Today I saw a smoothie being made out of spears of pineapple and fresh raspberries, blended together with orange juice. And, not to yuck anyone's yum, it's a subjective preferences, but given my druthers, I'd just eat the pineapple and berries and wash them down with OJ. And it should be just as healthy, since it's all the same stuff. Like I don't think any health benefits accrue specifically to not chewing.

It's true, they don't. At the same time there's a lot of craziness these days about fluid intake (15 glasses of water a day?) as well as the idea of consuming as many nutrients as possible in one handy serving - thus, smoothies. My mother's saying 'All things in moderation' still sounds like good advice to me.

15 glasses of water a day is a new one on me. I've heard 8. That's even kind of hard to achieve. I mean, how many bathroom breaks can you schedule for yourself? :) Again, I find life too short to get hung up on what other people eat, but don't try to convince me it's logical either.

Moderation's a pretty good watchword.
