Late summer

It's Labor Day, which is the end of the summer as far as the school year is concerned. In astronomical terms we've got three more weeks left. We're not in the middle of a heatwave now. It's just hot enough that one can wear shorts at home at night and have the ceiling fan going, and it doesn't make you chilly. It's a nice spot in the year.

It's always nice to know that by Labor Day the hot and uncomfortable part of summer has ended, but it's always a bit sad too. At least that's how I remember feeling when I had to go back to school on a day that would have been better spent swimming.

I forgot to mention the other day how neat it was to see Show on your post. One of my favorite quotes from that cartoon was 'World ends at 10. More news at 11'.

The end of summer means different things at different times in your life. It's not just a matter of being a kid versus being an adult, either. There are personal circumstances and meanings changing all the time. But I'm definitely glad to be past the inescapable sweltering heat at night, touch wood.

It amused me to compare the Garuda to characters from Shoe. I do like how they look expressive in a very grumpy, tired way.
