Resemblances

They say everyone has a twin.

This is one of those things you never know when it's going to happen. Sometimes you see someone and you think you know them. Maybe you've already started to say something, or you're about to. But it turns out it's just a semi-close resemblance, and now they think it's weird you're staring at them.

Or is that just me?

Mistaking one person for another is probably fairly common although usually we notice the difference fast enough not to embarrass ourselves. Many years ago when I had a summer job in Toronto I was half way across a street one lunchtime when I noticed a young guy coming the other way with a big smile on his face. He threw out his arms, picked me up and said, 'Diana!'. Then he realized I wasn't her and he put me back down saying 'sorry' and ran away.

It's not just you.

That is a very funny story. It's strange how what at first seems like one's natural behavior, something they don't even reflect on, starts to seem like incredible bravado when circumstances change just a little.

Anyway, I hope he and Diana had a good laugh over it when they next met.
