Monk Diamond Anniversary

In honor of Thelonious Monk hitting his centennial.

Monk's music takes me to a serene place, and often a joyful one. I know some people are put off by it, find it discordant. Oh well. You get different responses to the call of an owl as well.

He was a rare and often misunderstood genius. There was a tribute to him published today in the New Yorker that you might enjoy reading too. The fluid moves of his hands on the keyboard is amazing to see.

That was a fine article. Thanks for pointing it out to me. I like the end, where his wife is quoted as calling him "Melodious Thunk." So obvious, yet I'd never thought of it.

Yeah, his hand movements were something else.
