Wednesday will be Winter Solstice. Which means that winter will start then. We apparently don't have that yet. Just autumn, watching and admiring, ready to drop temperatures below 0F.

You're right that autumn is in many ways the most pleasant season - bright sunshine, warm days and cooling nights. Then all of a sudden winter hits like a brick. At least after tomorrow we can watch for the sun to stay a little longer with each passing day.
Strangely enough winter itself seems to be taking a vacation, perhaps having overindulged at an office party. I did laundry today and was absolutely sweltering on the way home. The fact that I had to use a different place which meant that I had a long uphill walk rather than a shorter downhill one didn't help.
