Overhead

A rather scathing variation on an old game show format.

This clip is fun on a couple of levels. Most obviously, of course, there's a glimpse at John Belushi before anyone outside of the Chicago comedy scene knew who he was.

Also improv theatre, even a very prominent one, has somewhat limited resources, and it's interesting to see how they'll stretch them out. Putting Joe Flaherty in an old-time peanut vendor outfit, for example.

Belushi was definitely a genius during his all too brief life as a professional comedian. I still have some fond memories of his skits on SNL - never mind The Blues Brothers movie.

Surprise and defying expectations are essential to any good comedy routine. We never knew about the Red Green Show until we came here but he came up with routines that met all my needs for hilarity.

He burned quite brightly, albeit not for long. Not long enough, nearly. The Blues Brothers was such a good showcase for him and Aykroyd. "How much for the little girl?"

The Red Green Show is one of the few Canadian shows that gets aired down here on regular TV, mostly public TV. Can see why. The reversible pants are a brilliant idea, at least for comedy. You can detect his accent, too.
