It's alive

I received a plant a few weeks ago. I don't think it's exactly a poinsettia, but the leaves have a similar shape and texture, but they're lighter, and maybe a little bigger in area. If this kind of plant has any special needs, I don't know about it. So I've just set it by a window and I've given it water once per week. While the plant has lost a few leaves, it still looks pretty healthy.

Exactly, Steve. So far, so good.

Nice wink from Steve McQueen. There are some good actors around these days but far too few really cool ones.

I never had much luck keeping poinsettias healthy post Christmas, likely because they've been forced into bloom and have little or nothing left for later. Not knowing what your new plant might be it sounds like you're treating it well enough. You know I have a great fondness for house plants, and outdoor ones too but having no garden or decent balcony prevents that indulgence. Presently I look after nearly twenty leafy green companions.

McQueen, I've read, pursued the part of Tom Hagen in The Godfather. That would have been pretty different. Not that I have any complaints about Robert Duvall.

I might have been tempting fate with this post. Not long afterwards I noticed that the water was going right through the bottom of the pot, meaning that the roots weren't absorbing, so the jig was pretty much up. I tipped the plant out and left it by a tree in the back yard. If it's outdoors in the company of other plants at least that gives it continuity. Still a melancholy occasion.

I'm glad your twenty green friends are doing well.
