First time in a while I've done this, but tonight I tried watching a movie on DVD, which I'd gotten from the library. Wow. Before I'd even gotten to the menu there were fifteen minutes of previews I couldn't skip, hyping movies that have long since come and gone and in some cases been forgotten. Then there was a lengthy ad for Epix, which has since been branded as MGM+. I'm coming to the conclusion that DVDs are now put together for the purpose of punishing you for watching them.

Your title is inspired.
We've had the same thing happen with a few of the movies we've bought as well as with rentals (talk about a dead business model). It was the industry's way of telling us you may think you own this dvd but we still determine the rules. I hope you found the film was worth the effort it took to get to it. By the way, you may not have been able to skip the long intro but Jer discovered he could fast forward through the drivel. Maybe you can try that if there's a next time.
Speaking of Jer this twitter video was one he found a couple of days ago - Biden and Trump impersonators..
There may well be an element of power/status play here. I also have to wonder if some studios put out DVDs but would prefer to keep everything digital, so they deliberately make their physical media onerous to use. I don't remember exactly which buttons I tried in this case. Fast-forwarding may be worth trying in the future.
I knew who Shane Gillis was but I wasn't familiar with Adam Ray. They do both do very good impressions.
