Carrying on

Since I came home this evening I've been having hay fever symptoms. Sniffling, sneezing, you know the drill. There is a bright side, though. At least I didn't get all allergic-like on the bus. It was a crowded bus, so you can imagine how popular I'd be.

I know just how debilitating a bad allergy attack can be. Hopefully, it came and went and you feel normal again.

Meanwhile, I thought you might enjoy hearing a story about a famous Victoria landmark that's just up the street and around the corner from here - the Empress Hotel.

Have a quick look before you watch Benedict Cumberbatch reading a letter from a guy who was banned from entering the hotel.

(ps: Brothers Meats and Delicatessen was a favorite occasional stop of ours when we lived in Halifax.)

That was an outlier. This has definitely been an allergy season for me, but mostly more manageable than that.

The Empress Hotel looks very impressive. Naturally, a big part of that is its waterfront location (Jordan River, I think?) But it's got nice architecture too. I wasn't familiar with the term "Chateauesque" but I think I've seen other examples.

Funny story. Four-five hours is a serious walk for a guy just stretching his legs on vacation. Notice that Cumberbatch is speaking in a higher register than usual, on top of the Canadian accent.

So does Brothers' pepperoni live up to the hype?
