All thumbs

 


One funny thing about the thumb piano in the contemporary world is that someone playing it just looks like they're texting. Or maybe playing on a Gameboy. So the melody is a surprise. I quite like this performance.

The YouTube page this video is on tells me that the setting is a Ugandan village called "No Village Beyond." Which is a great village name.

That was a fine video of a musician who was as charming as skilled with that little instrument. I remember having, or at least having one I was free to play, when we lived in Vancouver. It had nice tones but I never figured out how to play any particular pieces on it that anyone would recognize.

Yeah, he's a great musician and very engaging performer. You can see why he's attracted an audience among the villagers.

I'm sure it would be possible to churn out some recognizable tunes on an instrument like that. I don't think the vast majority of us could, though.
