Ninety-something in the shade

My latest gig they have me taking my temperature every morning. Now of course this is a digital thermometer, which means you don't have to stick it in your mouth or...anywhere. Just pump this little lever while it's pointed at you and you're all set.

Strange thing is that it's shaped a little like a purse gun, so taking your temperature is like shooting yourself in the head. And then you get to walk away from the experience. Eerie.

Severe hay fever doesn't raise your temperature, evidently.

well, your new thermometer immediately brings to mind one of my favorite video games. 'shin megami tensei' is the original 'gotta catch'm all' series, of which the most famous is 'pokemon'. unlike pokemon, with its assorted menagerie of somewhat cuddly fantasy creatures, smt goes with mythologic gods/goddesses/beings from around the world, which's both cool & educational...

the 'persona' series is a spin off of smt, involving modern day students, & my personal favorite is 'persona 3', in which your party members use an 'evoker' (which looks remarkably like a pistol) to summon their personas by firing it at their heads:

now, at the time (2006), other than being kinda badass, this was no big deal. but nowadays, what with 'self-harm' concerns prevalent, one might assume that some kinda re-evaluation might just be called for. & while, ordinarily, it very likely would be, its one of those quirky situations whereby the game itself is just so dearly beloved by so many at this point that this discomforting display of insensitivity has been sorta just swept under the rug. never let it be said that, when absolutely necessary, the wokesters can't simply let it slide...

anyway, best of health to you!

I see what you mean. Yeah, the "evoker" does look very pistol-ish, albeit with perhaps a few extra buttons. The creators caught a break that it didn't raise more of a stink. Good timing, perhaps. The public is fed different things to panic about at different times. A few years earlier had been the whole Trenchcoat Mafia thing. By 2006 Islamic terrorism still had the heat, although it was cooling off. By now it may have been grandfathered in, as you suggest. Be prepared to defend it, though.

The games does look gorgeous by the way. They took an interesting approach to design.

Stay cool and stay warm. :)
