Eye opener

I discovered the work of  Jens Retlev just today.*  Several paintings of his hang on the walls of a Swedish cafe that his wife manages. One that particularly grabbed me isn't on his website. And also, or course, his work does lose something in the translation from paint to pixels. But even a suggestion is pretty impressive.

* Pronounced with a "y" sound? You bet!

You chose an especially nice one but you're right it's always better to see artwork at first hand. I see he's a chef as well as an artist - always good to have something to fall back on, eh? Is that a restaurant you frequent?

While I don't have any works on canvas to share I did find this video of the Cathedral of the Soldier was opened in May of this year after having been built over the course of just two years. It's pretty amazing - even more amazing is the fact that without the Russians the West would have lost ww2 and that's not generally taught in schools - at least not nowadays. The Eastern Front..

I wouldn't say I frequent it, but I've been there a couple of times. I noticed while walking along North Main that they were open and you could dine in either inside or outside. You have to keep a mask on anytime you're not eating or drinking, but that's common. If he's a chef as well then they must be serving some of his recipes. That does sound like living life to the fullest.

It was a nice video. The music was a little on the melodramatic side but, well, Russia. It's interesting that the church goes mostly with classic Byzantine style. I wouldn't have guessed that it was just consecrated this year. Even the tsars took several centuries subdiing Russia, so tempting Hitler into trying it was a masterstroke.
