Mucha nieve

The first noticeable snowfall of the year was the day before Halloween. You could probably call what we got today the first big snowfall, though. Not enough to cripple the city (more than it already is), but enough to make you walk in the gutter instead of on the sidewalk for a few stretches. Also enough so that I took a ride over to Riverside to do some very light grocery shopping, because the one closer is at the end of a walk that...wouldn't have been pleasant in this weather.

I understand what you meant when you noted walking some places can be less than pleasant in winter. I remember several of them - including in Portland, oddly enough, when an ice storm or melting snow followed by a cold spell could make walking treacherous. Hopefully you didn't get as much snow as some of the other places we heard about and even more hopefully, may it melt away soon.

You have to kind of play it by ear with this supermarket if you're on foot. Because of all the going down and up hills involved, heavy precipitation is bad in general. You could definitely be puddle-splashed by a speeding car.

The snow we got was noticeable. Now it's gone, due to the warm rainstorm we got last Friday. I certainly expect that we'll see more, with January and February still to come. Which is fine, but would be nicer with the usual winter hangouts open.
