As of now it's no longer 2020. Playtime is over and it's back to work. Part of this work is selling the Israeli line on their Gaza war. But it doesn't end there.

The New Old Normal
2020 will stand in history as a great playtime for our news media. The election of Donald Trump in 2016 had allowed them a greater-than-usual degree of self-dramatization. With the post-George Floyd reckoning and "mostly peaceful" protests a number of them now went full leftist guerrilla...at least within the confines of their own skulls. And on the other side of the political spectrum some of the people who made hay on being anti-Covidian or gender critical weren't really putting anything on the line if you looked closely.

The events of 2020 could well be described as 'cultural shock and awe'; the original in 2003 caused death and destruction in Iraq but resulted in confusion and skepticism in a large part of the population abroad and at home. There had already been too many wars and even though many joined out of confused patriotism millions more objected to wreaking violence on a country that had no part in 9/11.
It's not unreasonable to see the wars against Iraq and Afganistan as the beginning of the end of the US as the world's self appointed policeman. Things got crazy after the financial crisis of 2008 when Americans began to turn on each other. I'm definitely oversimplifying but the results have been plain to see.
I enjoyed the Jonathan Cook article you linked to. He went after CNN while Patrick Lawrence has taken apart the NY Times (don't feel obliged to read it).
Things may very well get nastier before we see any changes for the better but there are signs: google DEI debunked to find many recent articles; Biden was declared incompetent to stand trial (or be president?); Mayorkas has been impeached; Covid lockdowns have been exposed as having been unnecessary; the western world was introduced to Vladimir Putin by Tucker Carlson. That's probably enough for now.
