The fitted sheet I bought some time ago and just put on my bed again yesterday is a good one. Smooth texture, and perhaps even more important, fits on the mattress without too much of a struggle. I think it might help me sleep better.

The tricky thing about bottom sheets in particular these days is that when you go to buy one not only do you have to check that it's the right size (full, queen etc.) you also have to check the depth. Some mattresses are very thick so regular size sheets don't fit properly.
We discovered flannel sheets a while back and they're wonderful.
Ah, I bet that's the rub. We think a queen-size is a queen-size, but that only covers the surface area without getting into depth. One more measurement to keep track of when shopping.
