One nice thing about a brutal heat wave—one, say, like we're experiencing now—is that it's easy to stay hydrated. Or rather it's easy to remember to stay hydrated. In cooler temps drinking water can easily be dismissed with a "why bother?" Now, though, it always feels like everything you've ever wanted. Especially with water turning from ice cold to coolish in just a few minutes outside of the fridge. So, it goes down fast.

I can't honestly report I have anything good to say about brutal heat waves other than the fact they just don't appear to happen here. When we read that Victoria has a meditterranean climate we already knew not to expect the South of France, but what was meant (we assume) is that it has moderate temperature fluctuations. In fact, our bed covers are much the same now as they were in the winter.
Wish you were here.
Well, given the kind of weather that France has had in recent weeks, I'm glad that you're not in the middle of that. Actually much of the European continent and some of Britain. Your part of Canada is an oasis for now, luckily. It's hard to imagine using the same covers as during the winter now. The worst of the heat passed, and most of last week was pretty temperate. It's climbing again now, but I found that things improve when you can run a fan and keep two windows open.
And it's looking better.
