Another preview of coming attractions

Should be in with a movie review at the end of the week. Well, not a review exactly, not probably. More a play across my brain. Not telling what the movie is now, because I want to hold onto at least some surprises. But the movie looks weird enough to be worthwhile, even though it comes from a hit-or-miss director.

Hopefully the library will have it ready for me in a couple of days. It better, I ordered it Monday.

If you're ever really in need of seeing an old b&w movie and don't subscribe to any of the streaming places checking out classic movies on youtube isn't a bad bet.

A couple of nights ago we watched one called The Hidden Hand, an old dark house mystery made in 1942 about a rich old woman who decides to fake her death so she can watch her heirs fight over her will. After arranging to have her brother escape from an insane asylum you soon get to see the house has all sorts of hidden passages and chambers that allow for some manic hilarity when people and things go missing.

The Daily Dot had a list of some of their (and our) old favorites.

It's interesting to see which movies stay up on YouTube and which get taken down with a polite suggestion to purchase the film somewhere else. A lot of the former are old enough to be in the public domain, at least if no one's claimed them. A lot, but not all, which I don't know if it's an oversight or what.

"The Hidden Hand" as a title sounds like a great way to get beat up at a casino. The movie looks pretty fantastic, though. Might have to check it out soon.

That Daily Dot list is pretty eclectic. I've seen a few of them, including the memorable Carnival of Souls. My Man Godfrey I saw with you and Jerry, and while it was a long time ago I remember William Powell being charming. Manos, Hands of Fate, on the other mano, was just barely watchable with the MST3K guys.
