Traces

I'm currently on a library computer. The guy who was on it before me―or maybe someone earlier in the day—logged into his Google account and never logged back out. His Google name is "________ the Magician" (redacted for privacy reasons). Avatar shows a pair of hands holding a pair of cards, so it's not just a name, I guess? Kind of exciting knowing there are magic doings afoot, somewhere in the area.

It is kind of a neat idea that magicians are nearby. I think I've told you before that we've been ending our evenings watching ten minutes or so of close-up magician acts. One of our favourites is Ricky Jay and this bit will give you an idea of why we like him. If you have the time one day there's an hour long performance piece of his directed by David Mamet that shows just how versatile he is and how funny too.

Oh, he's good. You can tell someone has a real knack for sleight-of-hand when they can pull it off in close quarters like Ricky Jay does in the first clip. Mamet must really like him because he's been in a few of his movies (House of Games, Spanish Prisoner).

Anyway, yeah, it's a kind of fantastic profession, something that's still got at least the aura of the 19th century on it, so it's a thrill to know they're still around.
