Not long ago every place was running air conditioning and fans. That's pretty much ended. Go into an office or a restaurant and if anything the air will be heated. Same if you get into someone's car or a bus. Although in the latter case that might just be from the other people.
I note this because it's one of the signs of the changing seasons. A secondary sign, cultural rather than natural.
The heat hasn't started in my apartment yet, as far as I know. Not far off, though.

We read about the east coast temperatures doing a mad swing from unusually warm to ridiculously cold. Having cool nights is typical for October in New England but the days ought to be mild for a little while yet. Let's hope that's what happens next.
What happened here weatherwise was that summer was pleasant but more like a lengthy spring in that it never did get hot. Then September was often windy, cool and rainy - not like last year at all. Of course we haven't been in Victoria nearly long enough to know what's normal.
That pretty much is what happened. Since I wrote this there actually have been a couple of nights when the heat came on. Tonight it doesn't look like that'll happen. The days have been mild mostly, with a one or two maybe distressingly warm.
A lengthy spring sometimes sounds nice. It sounds like what you've gotten is pretty much what I'd expect from Western Canada. I'm glad you find it more pleasant in some ways than back in Halifax.
