On the brrrr-ight side

Okay, with just a couple of days to go in 2017, I think it can be said that this has been an...aggressive December. Many days and especially nights where going outside feels like walking into a meat locker. You begin to see why bears hibernate. And I don't mean large hairy gay men. Or do I? The literature is ambiguous.

It's been ridiculously cold here too preceded by very high winds on Christmas Day - 40-45mph with gusts up to 80mph. We were glad we didn't have to go anywhere. The forecasts remain so bad that for the first time ever the big outdoor New Year celebrations have been cancelled in Ottawa.

I've looked at the Ottawa tourism website to see how big a deal that New Year's celebration ordinarily is. Pretty big. It's true that the bulk of the outdoor events were canceled. I have to love that they do something called "Hogman-Eh!" Sure, roll the Canadian and Scottish stereotypes into one.

Anyway, we've gotten more since then.
