More sweet sounds

It was never my intention to make this blog a revolving memorial and it still isn't. Still, I liked Dan Hicks. His records from the seventies made fine contemporary singer-songwriter tunes from early jazz/swing influences.

Stay tuned for another Final Songs. Looking at two albums from the late sixties, and not 100% sure which comes next.

Listening to Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks has always been a treat. Where's the Money? is so delightfully infectious it still gives me chills to hear it.

Jer said the other day you really know you've gotten old when not only are all your favorite musicians dead but you stopped listening to new stuff years ago. We'll look forward to your next edition of Final Songs whenever you get around to it.

Oh yeah, "Where's the Money?" That's a fun one. I limited myself to posting one song, but there could be a whole list of recommendations.

I still do listen to new stuff, but I'm aware it's a pretty narrow and oft obscure sample of new stuff. So the broader musical culture, to the extent there is one, is passing me by.

I came back to Final Songs. The most recent has a very cool comment by Jerry. I'll keep doing it as long as it feels right, and there are definitely a few more coming.
