sputter

There was a quick blackout earlier tonight. All the lights and everything else electric went off and spent a few seconds out before returning. It was a blinand-you'll-miss-it affair.

Still unsettling, though. For a few seconds it felt like an angry mob might come running through the streets. And me without a thing to wear.

It's always a bit disconcerting when the power goes out, isn't it. Doesn't take long for that atavistic element to show its face either.

The funny thing about this area is we've never lost power during a storm - only on clear blue sky, nothing in particular going on days. Just in case, we do have a candle (and holders) supply and a battery radio. One never knows.

"Atavistic". That's about the right word. I seem to remember kids dealing better with it, although that was before a lot of things were invented.

Probably not a bad idea to keep things on-hand, just in case it's dark and you don't feel like rolling over and going to sleep.
