Forgive lack of clever header, there are no good rhymes for "cryptid."

There is indeed a certain charm in knowing that there's an annual Bigfoot convention. Is there actually a Bigfoot. Hell, I don't know. Certainly there are still species out there we haven't identified, although most are much smaller.

But the attendees do seem to have an affecting faith in Bigfoot, and perhaps more importantly seem to like him. One says that mainstream science won't believe until there's a body, but that's not a trade he's willing to make.

As for " the sound you'd expect Bigfoot to make when blowing out birthday candles" I can't say I have much of a preconception on that.

I was actually surprised to see how many people are interested in (some obsessed by) finding an actual Bigfoot. If there is such a thing, or likely enough of them to keep the race going, why not just leave them alone? It's pretty obvious after all this time that if they wanted to interact with us humans they'd have done so.

The other thing that's weird of course is the fact that there are no decent photographs of one of the after so much time. I agree with you that most of the living creatures still extant in our world are far smaller. Still, it's nice for people to get together to discuss a mutual interest.

Bigfoot blowing out birthday candles is a step too far for my imagination too.

Jer was delighted to see that Fate magazine is still around.

You make a good point. Our own footprint as a species is not small. At this point we've actually got people living on at least a temporary basis in (parts of) Antarctica. It doesn't seem likely that our failure to meet the bigfoot type creatures is accidental on their part. Still, people have all sorts of reasons for doing what they do.

Why, indeed, are there no good pictures of them? It could be that there is no single species behind these sightings. I think we discussed black bears, and some really are just bears standing on their hind legs. Others might be creatures that we aren't so familiar with, so there's still an element of mystery. And yeah, I think it's a pretty wholesome interest for people to get together and discuss.

It might be just that we have no context for what that sound would be.

I was glad to see it as well, since it covers some of my interests. And it's nice to get a break from the things I read most often online.
