Surprise yapping

I was walking down a residential street today and all of a sudden heard this loud angry barking. Which startled me more than a little because I'd had no idea that there was even a dog nearby. The house had a fence in front, and shrubs growing in front of the fence. Which wouldn't have hidden a big dog, but this one was small. Had collie features but seemed about half the size. I'm thinking Sheltie

It always annoys me when dogs―whom I generally like―get territorial about the public sidewalk. But this one was nice to look at anyway.

It may well have been a sheltie since they do look like small collies. The thing is that they're working dogs who really don't like being in forced confinement. When they are they bark - sometimes for no obvious reason. A similar looking little dog came to live in our building recently and it's very yappy.

Of course, when they're in their proper environment they are quite wonderful to see and hear:

The shelties practicing their routines was very sweet. Then there's the border collies who perform their maneuvers at the Crufts Dog Show - pretty spectacular, eh?

I like dogs too - Garth Cold Nose Strong Heart was a singular friend.

That sounds like a pretty accurate diagnosis. They might be one of those breeds that just prefer to be out in the field doing their thing. This one was instead penned up on a fenced lawn and restless. Hope the dog in your building adjusts.

Nice footage of the shelties herding the sheep. And some beautiful country in Scotland as well.

I'd never seen anything from the Crufts Dog Show before. The border collie was really something else.

Garth was an unforgettable friend, as you say.
