Godspeed!

Coming home from an errand I was startled when I saw something run across the street. I soon realized it was a cat. Basically a tuxedo, with black back and face, white underneath. And yes, this cat was booking it.

I do hope this cat either returns home or finds a good new one. When I saw it it was running into the grassy elevated area that runs along the interstate. They are smart enough not to try crossing the highway, right?

He must have had some important business somewhere to be moving that fast. Did you know tuxedos are also called jellicle cats? Not that they're actually a separate breed.. I don't imagine he'd put hmself in danger. The only animals I know that will deliberately try crossing a highway are deer. They're cute but also very very stupid.

Jer found this clip of the Arthur Godfrey playing his badass version of 'Chinatown'. You might notice he has Jackie Gleason as a guest along with his very talented band (and some 1950s housewives). Times have indeed changed.

Honestly I always thought jellicle cats were just something made up by TS Eliot. Could have checked on that at any time but never did. Anyway, I'm glad to know they're too smart to try crossing a highway. Too bad deer aren't. I guess as a species they still haven't adjusted to our vehicles.

That was a great musical performance, and a notably intimate one. The housewives really seem to be digging it. So is Gleason, who was of course a composer and arranger himself. I like seeing this relatively unpolished setup.
