Tantrum

ICJ-rejecting politicians like Lindsey Graham and Tom Cotton could be called racist, but the wokies have taken the sting out of that one through overuse. You could call them corrupt, but it's a hard one to make stick without a paper trail. They're certainly callous, but a good part of the electorate may prefer that in their representatives.

Malcom Kyeyune notes that they're also dangerously nihilistic. That's quite true also. It also might do more to give the greater number of UnHerd readers pause.

I don't have much to add to your comments regarding Lindsey Graham and Tom Cotton; they've done nothing but add to the shame of what once was understood to be a respectable government. I did like the following remark somebody tweeted a few days ago: 'The Wizard of Oz is 85 years old. If Dorothy ran into men with no brains, no heart, or courage today, she wouldn't be in Oz, she'd be in DC.'

That was an excellent article by Malcolm Kyeyune - I hadn't thought of the term mimesis but it's a perfect fit for what we've been witnessing. I know I've referred to Robert Bolt's 'A Man for All Seasons' before but this statement is an apt descriptor of the situation these blockheads are arranging for us all - including themselves but they don't see that part.

Sir Thomas More: “Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!”

Something has gone seriously wrong with the culture from where the politicians are coming from. That is, members of Congress have always had shibboleths, things that they don't question. But by now whatever those things are is just sick. The Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion weren't so brainless, heartless, and gutless as that, by way of contrast.

Failure of mimesis is a very relevant framework here. These people claim to be conservatives but when the young start to question them they'll burn everything down. Too few Mores, too many Ropers.

By the way, sorry that your comment got spam filtered out. As you can see I restored it. I hope this doesn't happen much more.
