Take a look at the photograph illustrating this article about the human rights campaign. See anything that all participants have in common? It might be subtle, but you'll find it.
Joe Biden needs some people to still be religiously masking up in the Summer of '23 in much the same way that George W. Bush needed some to believe that Saddam Hussein gave the order for 9/11. In both cases they have just as much plausible deniability as they need, which isn't much.
Anyway, the activist class is chock full of this kind of person. Which is why a declaration of emergency can be had so cheaply. If enough people in the right conference rooms and Zoom meetings want it, they'll find a reason why they need it.

When I saw the image my first thought was that it was a photograph from 2021 or thereabouts. It's actually hard to believe any group of people could be convinced to wear a mask - other than a gang of train robbers - which is a good description of the Biden regime.
I'm sure you've run across this controversy before since I know you read Unherd. This has turned into a war of the trans movement against the LGB alliance. The trans insistence that gender identity beats biological sex is their only argument - one that's stated in increasingly loud voices in slightly different terms. For instance, the assertion that the phrase 'same sex attraction' is itself an attack on trans people, or that lesbians should be 'required' to have sex with anyone who identifies as female. It doesn't make any sense in the real world but eliminating perceived slights towards trans people must always come first.
It's obvious that trans movement attached itself to the LGB one deliberately with unfortunate results for gays. Of course, other than insanity, what so much of this comes down to is that a lot of people will agree to support any concept that will benefit them personally whether ot not its reprehensible..
btw: Good title.
It would seem that train robbers have gotten wimpier over the years. On the other hand, they're still hauling away the loot. So evolution, like the Lord, works in mysterious ways.
The repeated insistence that "Trans women are women!" is very big on social media and in the official communiques of many groups. For whatever reason "Trans men are men!" isn't repeated as often, although it is an implicit corollary and there is the same pressure to affirm it. If it were a matter of trans women being able to live as women within reasonable limits, you'd have much more buy-in. But the terms presented are always that trans people just are the gender they identify as, and everyone has to accept that. And the thing is, no one actually believes that. The fact that no one believes it almost seems to be the point. It helps the object of dividing the world into friends and enemies.
Once Obergefell made same sex marriage legal in this country, LGB political groups were faced with the prospect of becoming just social clubs. Sounds pleasant, but the leadership didn't want that. So they started adding a bunch of other far-out causes, with the result being that they've lost a lot of structural integrity.
Who doesn't love Bobby Boris Pickett?
