Saluting the emperor

You still see them here and there. People who still mask outside, when no one else is particularly close to them physically. Or while alone in their cars.

Many precautions either made no sense on their face at the beginning or were quickly debunked. But as a rule public health experts seem unwilling or perhaps unable to tell the public that the justification for a particular measure has passed. "Relax" is not in their vocabulary.

We've seen examples of that all too often ourselves. Also, neither of us ever wore a mask unless forced by circumstances. In the past two years I've used just two of them - the common blue paper variety. When the elastic broke on the first one as I entered the bank a nice young teller gave me a fresh one.

If only they'd mandated red rubber clown noses or Groucho glasses and moustaches instead, going out in public would have been far more entertaining.

Yeah, a lot of businesses would give you one if you entered not wearing one. The need to keep making money does have some upsides. But yeah, certainly not my preference. For the long period when you had to wear them on buses it encouraged me to walk more places, which I guess is also an upside.

Mandated propeller beanies. I'm not sure how you'd justify it, but it would be a scream.
