One thing I enjoy about stop motion animation is that I know it's based on something, built on something. The filmmakers slow down a little, interact with their creations in a tactile way.
That seems to be, at least in part, the theme of this short about a little gentleman confectioner. I enjoy his satisfied snooze at the end.

You're right that a hand made video like this one is very satisfying to watch for the simple reason you can see it meant a lot to the person who took such care in putting it together. It has no pretensions to be anything more. The little old man is charming in his weariness.
Oh yes, definitely a labor of love. That little guy is my hero. The candy store man or the animator? Oh hell, let's say both.
