Ah, summer!
Today was one of the first really sweaty days of the summer. Which is fine, these things come and go. You just have to make sure you stay hydrated. Probably run the fan some, too.
Of course insects are more active during the summer as well. There are bitey bugs, which you avoid as much as you can, but you probably can't completely. And there are noisy bugs. Beetles (to say nothing of Beatles) tend to make a lot of background noise at night. So if you want to stay focused on a task, it's good to play some music to cover them up. If you're like me, at any rate.

I'm one of those who doesn't deal well with hot humid weather - temperatures much above 80 leave me limp. Not that I like it really cold either but it's generally easier to get warm on cold days than cool on hot ones.
Bitey insects that also make noise are the worst - especially late at night when they interrupt sleeping time. This stuff is supposed to be the best repellent. Turning up the car radio helps one ignore any weird noises the engine might be making (probably a short term solution).
The hotter nights are icky for me, and leave me rather grumpy in the morning. So it's a relief to get back to more temperate evenings, like we're having now.
That humming and buzzing followed by a bite or two? Yeah, that's pretty annoying. It makes sense that lemon and eucalyptus would be helpful in keeping them away. It's similar to the quinine water British soldiers in the tropics drank. Now they really had reason to want to repel bugs.
