If the time comes when we have to restart civilization - and all things considered, I'm not discounting the possibility - it would help to have a few choice scraps of what went before. The above cartoon by Barry Kliban strikes me as an excellent start, among other pieces by him. It's something to aspire to, yet something to relate to.

This might be one of Kliban's most existential cartoons ever, neither of us can figure out what that object is supposed to be.
As for the restarting civilization thing I have a feeling the time is ripe. Tonight we watched a movie that had positive reviews called Game Night that was one of the worst we'd ever seen - Eight Stooges would have been a better title.
Yeah, I think that the unidentifiable nature of the object is part of the point. The guy heading into the store has no idea what it is or what he could do with it either.
Sorry the movie Game Night wasn't to your liking. I hadn't heard of it before, and it turns out to be very very new. From the cast I do recognize the name of Kyle Chandler, who starred in a hokey but good-hearted show called Early Edition in the nineties. But few actors can really ensure the quality of the projects they appear in.
