Nexus

Is this the ideal place to be? Not necessarily in a physical sense. The recording was made in Leipzig, and not everyone can travel to Germany. But there's a nice balance here. Church bells and some kind of motor. Birds chirping. Human voices, and with them, a dog. This is where nature meets culture. Maybe this time they can be friends.

I enjoyed the quiet beauty of this soundscape and was reminded of a book I enjoyed reading a few years ago titled A Time of Gifts written by Patrick Leigh Fermor. First published in the 70s it's his reminiscence of a walking tour he made in 1933/34 as he walked across Northern Europe from the Hook of Holland overland to Constantinople when he was 18.

I found a review you might enjoy. I do have the copy with this cover if you think you'd be interested in having it on hand. I'd be happy to send it to you.

There's a beauty and serenity in this soundscape. It struck me as something you might appreciate.

I had never heard of A Time of Gifts before, or of Patrick Leigh Fermor for that matter. As you mention, it was published quite a bit later than when he made the original trek. (He had a date in Constantinople now she's waiting in Istanbul.) I've read a couple of excerpts online and it does seem interesting. He was a very lyrical writer, it seems like.
