We want a rock

The Flintstones lived in a little bungalow with a flat roof. I had forgotten this. I thought they lived in a cave. The BC Characters live in caves but the Flintstones do not.

Anyway, what sent me on that little dive was this short piece on the Stone House in Portugal. It's apparently rumored to be modeled on houses on The Flintstones. It doesn't really look like them, though. It doesn't look like anything else I've seen, really. Probably an interesting place to live.

I may have remembered the Flintstones living in their bungalow next door to Betty and Barney Rubble. I always thought they were loosely based on the Honeymooners, just with different jobs. Oddly enough there happens to be a construction company here in Victoria called Flintstones.

On the other hand I had forgotten the inspired BC comics. Thanks for the reminder.

The Stone House in Portugal doesn't look particularly comfortable but it is a step up from the neighborhood in Bedrock. The one that does look cozy enough for Fred and Wilma nowadays might be this one:

Oh yeah, the Flintstones and Rubbles were definitely inspired by the Kramdens and the Nortons. Although of course they were suburban homeowners whereas the characters on The Honeymooners lived in urban apartments. I don't think the animated characters had the same depth as their predecessors, but the show had a lot of kid appeal. I looked at the Flintstones Construction website. It doesn't mention that they've heard all teh jokes, although I'm sure they have. They also have some cute pit bulls on the employee page.

Johnny Hart was a very funny guy. That might be the funniest comic to come out of the later 50s. (Peanuts was created earlier in the decade.)

I guess the comfort level would depend on how much you could carve out from the inside of the rocks. That's one crazy house in Mexico. I'm definitely getting the octopus thing.
