A report

This was kind of a surprise, and a pleasant one. Mainly because Eno has been involved in some way or another with all of U2's albums since 1985, and Bono has been very exhibitionistic about Ukraine. Which is probably a matter of chasing relevance as time goes on.

Of course everyone very publicly and loudly agreeing on something without brooking any opposition isn't limited to one issue. It's gotten to be a norm in the past few years.

The problem we have with so much of the way this issue has been described is the fact that it's largely based on passion rather than reason. Nobody is allowed to discuss context in public media and therefore only one point of view is promoted. Nobody, not even the esteemed Brian Eno, wants to be heard saying the Russian government, not just Vladimir Putin, had good reason to send the military to protect the people of Donbass when it was apparent the attacks against those provinces that had already suffered thousands of fatalities would be escalated.

The malice involved in spreading the blame to all Russians of every age whether ordinary people, great athletes or legendary artists goes to prove that nothing other than madness is afoot in the west.

Well, there's been a flood of propaganda in the west. The propaganda hasn't been very convincing, but it doesn't need to be. It just has to persuade the most visible and audible people that they don't want to get in the way. Eno doesn't get all of it, but, well, half a loaf.

Zelensky just spoke to American mayors, urging them to cut "sister city" ties with cities in Russia. So he's got more free time than has generally been acknowledged. Also, the war is entering its "extreme pettiness" stage.
