This is a very fun movie. (The Court Jester, that is.) Kaye's musical numbers slow things down a little, but he's charming enough so that you don't mind much. There's a lot of comedic double crossing, some of it involving a very cute young Angela Lansbury.
When we were kids Danny Kaye was like a king for children as the Court Jester goes far to show. I think everybody memorized, 'The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true!' The sword fight was pretty outrageous too. I'm glad to know you enjoyed seeing it.
Yeah, the "pellet with the poison" exchange has entered the collective unconscious (or something like it) for a reason. The repeated "Get it?" "Got it" "Good" bracks me up too.
