I've been keeping an eye on the little weather app that I guess is embedded with Windows, which puts the temperature and verbal stuff in the lower left corner of my laptop screen. First it said "Cold weather", which I'd already picked up on. Last night was colder, though. Then "Partly cloudy", which is a little harder to pick up on at night but I can see the cloud cover out the window. As far as predictions, it says the temperatures will rise tomorrow, which I believe. And also there's supposed to be an inch of rain on Friday, but that far out it's still anybody's guess.

Forecasting the weather is a tricky business and who to believe is trickier still. Victoria has a lot of micro climates so a forecast for James Bay can be wildly different from other places in the city. What all of our local stations say now is there'll be constant rain for weeks ahead. I believe it since I can see and hear the deluge, called by the experts an atmospheric river..
It seems like people enjoy obsessing about the weather far more than they used to do. Winter? expect cold and snow. Spring? it's getting warmer. Summer? Enjoy the heat in whatever way you choose. Fall? Might need to wear a sweater or maybe not. I got all that from The Old Farmer's Almanac.
Or there's always the old favorite: “If you don't like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.”
~ Mark Twain
It turns out I was mistaken on something. I'd always believed that Victoria was about the same size as Providence, maybe a little bigger. Looking it up, I see that Providence has two to three times the area of Victoria, and also has a larger population. Nonetheless, I can believe that there are a number of climactic variations within the city. It depends on things like elevation, soil, nearness to water, etc.
People like to think that they're in control where nature is concerned. They're not, which is what makes it nature. Anyway, weather is a way you can feel more in control if you're on top of the weather. But that's always a temporary feeling.
I like that quote by Mark Twain. It probably reflects his being born in Missouri and eventually moving to Connecticut. And I hope you've ridden out the rain all right.
