Misterioso

I was at the laundromat and sitting on the side of the place where the TV is set to a Spanish language station. Not paying all that much attention to it, since I was both washing my clothes and reading a book. But I did look up at just the right time. There was a story about a luchador who'd had an accident in the ring. One of the reporters talked to him in his hospital bed. Yes Virginia, he still had his mask on.

Hispanophone media in America is different. Is it better? I don't know. But it certainly adds some variety.

Thanks for this entertaining and informative post about Lucha Libre in Mexico. I'd always assumed it was an imitation of WWE performances so it was very interesting to learn it has a much longer tradition. Some of the masks are very cool looking and the lucadors have great costumes. The part about never being able to wear one's mask again if it was lost in a bout was very significant

I watched the video and was surprised to see it wasn't just two huge guys who appear to be mauling each other but instead half a dozen or more garishly costumed characters of different shapes and sizes all running around at once. Some of them liked to stand on the ropes before doing backflips to return to the center mats. It was interesting to note there are lower level rings as well that I imagine are there for extra landing spots for those thrown out of the main one. The audience was definitely having a good time.
