Tunesmith

With the recent passing of Jon Hendricks, Lambert, Hendricks & Ross join the Ramones in getting back together. That gives me all the excuse I need to play one of their delightful songs, or it would if I needed any.

I'd never heard of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross (later, Bavan) so this was especially nice to hear for the first time. They were very good during their fairly brief career - one that ended when Lambert was killed in the mid-60s.

The Ramones career lasted somewhat longer but their fast-paced eccentric lifestyles pretty much foresaw them not being one of those bands that make peace and rejoin for a tour 25 years later. I'm not sure the world would have been ready for that had it been possible. I'm very glad, however, we got to see them live a few times.

I've only heard a little of them with Yolande Bavan. She's a very good singer with an unconventional history, quite different from Annie Ross, so it's an interesting combo. Yeah, it's a sad story with Lambert. He died apparently while changing a tire, although it's not clear if it was his own or someone else's.

I'm glad to have seen the Ramones at least once as well. They were a band of very strong personalities, ah, among other things. A very volatile mix in a way that made for exciting music, but in a way it's surprising they stayed together as long as they did.
