The long haul

I heard - overheard, the conversation had started when I got there - a bus driver saying that he gets up at 3:20 in the morning. I had to ask to make sure I'd heard that right. But he was used to it because he'd been a long haul trucker before that. Trucking is a notoriously weird and disorienting job, and you can see why.

He also said that he knew a bus driver who kept a six pack in the trunk of his bus. Thereby hangs another tale.

No, I can't imagine getting up at that time either; however there are people who enjoy being up and active when most everyone else is asleep. Driving long distance is probably easier when you pretty much have the road to yourself.

I hope there are bathrooms available on the other driver's route.

That's true. If there's a time you don't have to worry about getting stuck in a traffic jam, the middle of the night would be it. Quiet except for your radio.

As far as bathrooms go, I think drivers tend to have understandings with a few business on their route. Not so much with private homes. That would be weird.
