When customs officials ask you if you have anything to declare, can you still crack them up by saying "Only my genius"? Or do they hear that one a dozen times a day already?

They tend not to have a sense of humor. Some years ago I drove from RI to visit my parents. At the border, the customs guy asked if I was carrying any firearms and when I quipped, 'I didn't know I was supposed to bring any' he had my car thoroughly searched. Lesson learned.
I wonder if that quip would get a better reaction now, or a worse one. And if it would make a difference whether you said it in a southern accent. :)
