Shelter from the storm

I remembered this week that the library would be closed tomorrow because they do a three day weekend thing for Labor Day. This is after forgetting the same thing for Victory Day, which is a weird Rhode Island only thing. Anyway, I had three things to pick up, so today was the day to do it. They included a movie I wanted to watch tonight anyway.

Weird thing is, we had three separate thunderstorms today. The first one ended before I left the house. The second one started while I was on the way. It only got me a little wet, though, and while I was in the library it ended. I'd say that Numero Trio, that started when I got home, was the doozie.

One among many funny things we've noticed in Canada is that because on the average week mail is delivered Monday through Friday, what happens is we don't ever get mail on a Monday. When it's a three day weekend we don't get mail until Wednesday. I'm not sure what that's about other than the idea that the post office employees have to sort whatever mail arrives at the post office the previous week. I'm glad you remembered this time and got your orders from the library.

I happened across an article on the Daily Grail this week that might interest you. The author (the red pill junkie?) has some fascinating thoughts about exactly why AI is so weird and includes some remarks by Jaron Lanier.

I'm happy to know the deluge waited until you were safely home.

You're probably right that the postal workers need some extra time to sot the previous week's arrivals. Or at least they do the way things are currently staffed and organized. Yeah, the library trip was a success. While the library as an institution shows some unfortunate signs of blue state smugness, I still like a lot of the materials I can get there and I tend to like the people as well.

That was an interesting article in the Daily Grail. Red Pill Junkie's long experience as a UFO theorist gives him a unique perspective on AI. I'd noticed trends like AI images ripping off the look of Miyazaki cartoons but the yellow effect kind of got past me. Of course images that have been copied numerous times do degenerate, so it makes sense digital info would as well. Always good to hear more on Jaron Lanier as well.

I might be getting better at judging rainstorms, or maybe I've just been lucky.
