All the steps

Step 1: Put food in the oven.

Step 2: Close the oven door.

Step 3: Wait 30-40 minutes.

Step 4: Wonder why you still don't smell any food.

Step 5: Realize that it helps when you turn the heat on.

This is one of those things that's unbelievably aggravating in the moment but gets funny when you have a couple hours' distance.

Almost all the steps.. I know the feeling - aggravating but not disastrous, other than being hungry a little while longer.

Disastrous is:
Wondering if you left the iron on three hours after you left the house
or, wondering if you left a candle burning next to the curtains three hours after..
or, wondering if you left water running in the bathtub three hours after..
or, wondering if you left the baby in that bathtub three hours after...

Forgetting to turn on the oven or the tea kettle is small stuff in comparison.

Those four things are all rather more serious, and the word "disastrous" is not inappropriate. Under some circumstances you might leave a key out and ask a neighbor to check in to make sure the iron is off, the baby isn't in the bathtub, etc. That's if you have a neighbor you trust a great deal and who you know will be around that part of the day. Sad to say we don't have as much of a high trust society as we once might have.
