Not as advertised

Check the headline. It reads "Florida Republican brings ‘America First’ bent to powerful Foreign Affairs Committee". But...the article is about Brian Mast, a Representative famous (or infamous) for wearing the military uniform of a foreign country around the Capitol. Does the word "first" not mean what it used to?

Of course you hear about Washington getting a "shakeup" every few years. They never seem to get rid of the ones who should be gotten rid of.

It certainly appears that Brian Mast, wise or not about foreign relations, will be on the team Israel First. As the most pro-Isreal member of Congress he displayed his allegiance when he wore the IDF uniform on Capital Hill - something that would have been totally unacceptable if it were any foreign power other than Israel.

You're right the 'shakeups' never go nearly as far as the citizens hope. Trump’s backing of Mast for a key foreign policy position provides ample proof that he's likely not as 'antiwar' as he claims. I wish it were different.

btw: Have you read about Netanyahu's trial in Israel?

Being the most pro-Israel member of Congress is a tall order when the two houses together also contain Tom Cotton, John Fetterman, and--until her UN job starts--Elise Stefanik. But yes, Mast's functioning as a costumed cheerleader for the IDF helps him clear the bar. It also shows the kind of double standard at play.

Trump seems bound to disappoint anyone who hoped to see him put the country on a less warlike path. Yet still, neither Joe Biden nor Kamala Harris deserved to beat him, on this front or on most others.

Netanyahu is a slick political player, one who hasn't been out of power for long during this century. He may have pushed his luck too far now. One can hope.
