Claws out

Whenever I go to a video on YouTube now there are, as always, thumbnails of other videos running down the right side of the screen. And there's a particular class of video that's been cropping up lately. They'll be about musicians, with the format "X finally comes clean about Y." "Keith Richards finally tells the whole truth about Jeff Beck" or the like. The implication being that these rock stars have salacious gossip and harsh personal judgments about each other but have been holding them in for decades out of sheer politeness. Sure, buddy.

I'd ask what it is about me that they think I'd be interested, but it's all obviously just a mixture of AI and desperation.

If I open youtube without looking for a particular video or a search for a song or specific subject I see this:

Try searching to get started
Start watching videos to help us build a feed of videos you'll love.

Once they know who I am (presumably from my IP) youtube begins offering its often bizarre choices for what else I might want to see. Considering I've been offered Tom and Jerry cartoons along with Nelson's battles in 3D it's a peculiar form of AI that I imagine they're hoping will improve so you'll never want to go anywhere else on the web. Yes, desperation too. Musicians indulging in smutty gossip is something else again.

Speaking of youtube and its teasures (despite their suggestions), have you seen this version of Rhapsody in Blue from the movie about Gershwin? Even if you'seen it it's cool to watch again.

ps: I forgot to mention how much I enjoyed the Henry Mancini Peter Gunn theme music.
