We had a lot of summery days in October, and a few even in early November. For whatever reason. That's not how it is now, though. We're getting overnight temperatures in the low 30s. Certainly some nice things about this. You can just snuggle into the blankets to get to sleep. And it's getting easier to go for a long walk in a jacket without overheating.

The couple who live downstairs have a string of lights running around their doorframe. Colorful. Some of the lights are non-Christmas colors, so I don't think they're Christmas lights as such. Plus, strong chance the couple are Hindu. But it's certainly festive.

It's colder here too and rainier than it was early last month. It all kind of sneaks up on a person, doesn't it? A couple of powerful windstorms ripped most of the leaves off the trees and knocked down our balcony plants as well. I picked up the plants from the floor which was appreciated by the hummingbird.

I'm guessing your downstairs neighbors have been observing Diwali, a five day festival of lights that celebrating the triumph of light over dark, good over evil, and the blessings of victory, freedom, and enlightenment (according to wikipedia). That's something we can all commend.
We're in the foyer of winter here now. It reaches the freezing point on some nights. No snow yet, though. And I haven't seen ice on the ground. Your hummingbird friends will be going into torpor soon if they haven't already. That's a state of such profound suspension you'd swear they'd joined the bleeding choir invisible, but they will be rejoining you in the spring.
I think you're right about the Diwali celebration. They've taken the lights down since I wrote this, so they weren't just decorative. The door is still nicely decorated. It's nice to walk by.
